FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you have a major in Photography/Graphic Design/
Videogame Development?

No, we offer ONE course; it is a hands-on specialized course that leads to a Diploma in Visual Arts & Communication. This program is designed for students who wish to have a career as commercial artists and illustrators.

How many classes do I take each day/week?

Our program is skill based-which means that you work on a specific project until it is finished. Each morning starts with an hour of sketching exercises prior to working on individually assigned projects. Much like an apprenticeship, all students have a private easel and are expected to be at school from 9:30-5:00, Monday-Friday. After all, in the real world, you’ll need to work business hours too! For a full list of courses and descriptions, click here.

What about Math/Science/English classes?

At Gemini School, we focus on career preparation for future commercial artists. Therefore, gaining a high level of skill in drawing, painting and digital art is our top priority. We do not offer classes in math, science or English. Our four year program includes subjects necessary to become a successful commercial artist: drawing, painting, digital media (including Photoshop, 3DStudio Max and Painter), anatomy, perspective and photography. What SAT or ACT scores do I need to be admitted to Gemini School?

Gemini School does not require prospective students to take either the SAT or ACT exam. You are required to have a high school diploma or GED, complete a written application and personal interview/portfolio review. To get an application form click here.

What is the application deadline?

Gemini School accepts “rolling” admissions applications. If there is a place available and you are selected for admission, you will be able to start at the beginning of the first available term.

What kind of portfolio do I need for my interview/portfolio review?

At your interview/portfolio review, we like to see samples that reflect your best work. If you have originals, bring them, but quality reproductions are fine too. Remember we do NOT expect prospective students to show work at the level of our currently enrolled students. To see typical examples of artwork shown at the portfolio review stage, click here.

Can I transfer credits from another school?

No, Gemini School does not accept transfer credits. However, your progress at Gemini School is based on your individual ability/skill level, not on that of your peers.

What about Federal Student Loan or Grant Programs?

At this time, Gemini School does not participate in Federal Student Loan or Grant Programs. However, we DO have student loans available through the Sallie Mae Career Training Loan Program. For more information on the Sallie Mae program, click here.

Do you have student housing on campus?

We don’t have on site student housing, however, most of our students live in apartments, condos or private homes in the Northwest Austin/Cedar Park area. There are many options available to fit a variety budgets. For more information on housing options in and around Austin, click here.
