Mark your calendars for Thursday, June 5th from 4-8 p.m., as we hold our annual Industry Day @ Gemini School. We'll showcase our 3rd and 4th year student portfolios, hold FREE Master Class painting demonstrations and wind up with a networking Happy Hour. Details on the day's events are below!
**2008 Student Showcase. If you're an Art Director or Recruiter looking for talented full time, contract or intern artists, Gemini School 3rd and 4th year students will be on hand to show their portfolios and talk one on one with company representatives. Recruiters/Art Directors can call us 512-249-1237 to reserve meeting times.
**Master Classes. Gemini School faculty and special guests will demonstrate the latest techniques in Speed Painting (Roger Barcilon @ 4:00 p.m.), Digital Speed Painting (David Levy @ 5:00 p.m.) and Animation (Joe Mandia @ 6:00 p.m.) You won't want to miss seeing these talented, award winning artists in action.
Demonstrations are FREE but an RSVP is requested as seating is limited. **It's Happy Hour Time! We'll wrap up the day with our annual Industry Happy Hour from 6:00-8:00 p.m. It's a great way to unwind, visit with old friends and make new contacts. PRESENTER BIOS:
Roger Barcilon, Founder, Gemini School.
Roger graduated with honors from the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona, Spain. He has been a professional illustrator for over 50 years in the advertising and publishing industries where he continues to work today. His previous client list includes major advertising agencies throughout the US and Europe where his illustrations were used in campaigns for L'Oreal de Paris, Coca Cola, Pirelli, Gillette and Omega. Today, Roger's talent can be seen on videogame art (XMEN Legends, Enter the Matrix) and in national consumer publications and advertisements.
As a renowned European fine artist, Roger has exhibited throughout Europe and the Americas where many of his paintings hang in private collections. Roger has the honor of being included in the Italian Encyclopedia of Art >"Commanducci". Recently Roger was honored with an International Award of Excellence and included in the publication "Painter". Chosen from over 4,000 entries, Roger's work titled "Self Portrait" embodies the Gemini School's teaching philosophy by combining classic painting techniques with the latest digital tools.
David Levy
For over 12 years, David has created some of videogame's most compelling images for titles including Turok, NBA Jam, Prince of Persia and Assassins. A native of Montpellier France, his career includes positions from concept artist to creative director with companies including Argonaut, Acclaim UK, Acclaim US, ReelFX and UbiSoft. David has also been a featured speaker at industry events including the Game Developers Conference, North American Concept Artist Workshop and Gnomon Workshop.
Today, he is the Creative Director for Spacetime Studios in Austin, Texas and teaches Concept Art and Creative Process classes at Gemini School. David holds a BTS (Brevet de Technicien Superieur) in Industrial Design from the European Institute of Toulon and a BA with honors from Maastricht, Netherlands in Industrial Design and Architecture.
Joe Mandia
Joe Mandia has been in the animation and effects field since 1993 where he got his start at Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, Florida. After working at Nick he moved to Los Angeles, California to work at some of the biggest names in visual effects and animation: Digital Domain, Walt Disney Feature Animation, Bluesky Studios and Sony Imageworks.
Joe's feature film credits include: The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers,Powder,The Fifth Element,Dante's Peak,Titanic,The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, X-men 1 and 2, Daredevil, Chicken Little, Ice Age 2, Open Season, Surfs Up and Spiderman 3. In addition to film Joe's talents can be seen in numerous television commercials and music videos, including spots for Nike, Gatorade, Coke, Budwieser, Busta Ryhmes, Jamiroquai and Pink.
Currently, Joe works at Sony Online Entertainment helping to bring the iconic characters of DC Comics to life on their upcoming massively multiplayer online game.
